Invest, Invite, Invest!
There have been so many discussions over the years concerning the best way to
evangelize or share the gospel. Some say, “We have to put on big events that grab
the attention or interest of non-believers.” Others say, “We have to get out there
and knock on every door in the community.” Whether it’s event-based evangelism
or cold-call evangelism, one thing rings clear; the good news about Jesus Christ
must be communicated to everyone who has ears to hear. I love what Matthew
28:19-20 says, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in
the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe
all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the
Those two little words, “GO THEREFORE”, provide us with the insight we need
for everyday life. It literally means, “AS YOU GO” or “AS YOU ARE GOING.”
It’s the picture of a life that is on mission for God and completely surrendered to
His leadership. How long has it been since you asked the Lord to keep your eyes
and ears open for every opportunity to share the love of Christ and His good news?
Do you look for ways to serve, help, and/or be kind to others? Are you intentional
with your words to make sure each conversation turns toward dependence on God,
His love and His Word?
Statistics have proven that most people who come to church for the first time or the
first time in a long time, come on the arm of a trusted friend. You’ve made some
type of an impact in their life and they’re willing to discover… “The Why?” Have
you been investing in the lives of other people lately? Do you care whether or not
they know Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior? Are you willing to invite them
to church or even pick them up if necessary? Will you sit with them, introduce
them to other believers, and continue to walk with them throughout their journey?
Just take a minute and think back to that person who invested in you, invited you to
church, and was there to answer any question you might have. Aren’t you glad
they cared enough about you to share Jesus? Let’s cry out to Jesus together and
ask for His help as we invest, invite, and invest some more. After all, it won’t be
too much longer before His return.
THE SOUND OF HIS VOICE
Have you heard it? It often stops me in my tracks! It’s far more
amazing than the rumble of a train coming through town, a plane flying
overhead or even a strong afternoon storm. It’s even more impressive than
the waves crashing against the shore, mountains reaching out to the heavens,
the sun ragging or the earth spinning. It’s the sound of His voice. I don’t
know about you, but I hate to miss His voice. He speaks in so many
amazing ways and the thought of missing out on what He might say next is
simply unacceptable. Have you been listening?
“O how I love Thy law! It is my meditation all the day. Thy
commandments make me wiser than my enemies, for they are ever mine. I
have more insight than all my teachers, for Thy testimonies are my
meditation. I understand more than the aged, because I have observed Thy
precepts. I have restrained my feet from every evil way, that I may keep
Thy word. I have not turned aside from Thine ordinances, for Thou Thyself
hast taught me. How sweet are Thy words to my taste! Yes, sweeter than
honey to my mouth! From Thy precepts I get understanding; therefore I
hate every false way. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my
path” (Psalm 119:97-105).
I want to testify that there is great value, stability and life that freely
flow from His word. We should order our day that we might seek His voice
in the stillness of the morning. Let’s place a high priority upon His Word
and a great significance to His leadership in life. “Trust in the Lord with all
your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways
acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in
your own eyes; fear the Lord and turn away from evil. It will be healing to
your body and refreshment to your bones. Honor the Lord from your
wealth, and from the first of all your produce; so your barns will be filled
with plenty, and your vats will overflow with new wine” (Proverbs 3:5-10).
Just in case you haven’t noticed, there’s a decision to be made. Will
we continue to do things however we see fit to do them, or will we
reposition ourselves under the covering of the Mighty One and seek His
voice? Please let me encourage us to come into agreement with His word,
repent and stand amazed at how He begins to speak in the coming days. O
the sound of His voice.
RAISE THE BANNER HIGH!
Have you had the opportunity to run into Yehovah–Nissi lately? The Lord is
my Banner! If you’ve been around church for a while, you’ve probably heard some
of the great names of God and experienced them to be true. Names like Yehovah-
Rapha: the Lord is my Healer, Yehovah-Yireh: the Lord is my Provider, or even
Yehovah-Shalom: the Lord is my Peace, but have you ever run into Yehovah-Nissi:
the Lord is my Banner? Come on somebody, I need a witness up in here!
When you think about banners you probably think about ballgames, birthdays,
advertisements or even special events. You might even begin to sing “His Banner of
Me Is Love”, “We Want to See Jesus Lifted High” or some other banner song, but
have you considered what the Word of God says about the Lord your Banner?
Exodus 17:8-16 says, The Amalekites came and attacked the Israelites at Rephidim.
Moses said to Joshua, "Choose some of our men and go out to fight the Amalekites.
Tomorrow I will stand on top of the hill with the staff of God in my hands." So Joshua
fought the Amalekites as Moses had ordered, and Moses, Aaron and Hur went to the
top of the hill. As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but
whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning. When Moses' hands
grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur
held his hands up—one on one side, one on the other—so that his hands remained
steady till sunset. So Joshua overcame the Amalekite army with the sword. Then
the LORD said to Moses, "Write this on a scroll as something to be remembered and
make sure that Joshua hears it, because I will completely blot out the memory of
Amalek from under heaven." Moses built an altar and called it The LORD is my
Banner. He said, "For hands were lifted up to the throne of the LORD. The LORD
will be at war against the Amalekites from generation to generation."
The Lord is my Banner can go before us each and every day as we choose to
recognize His authority and enter into all that He has for us. Whether we’re headed
into battle or simply need to take a stand in agreement with His Word, Yehovah-Nissi
is our Banner who will go before us announcing to the enemy that God’s people are
choosing to advance in unity and he better get out of the way. Is Jesus your Banner
today? Are you choosing to humble yourself and come into agreement with His
Word or do you want to do your own thing, lift up your own banner and make empty
declarations to an enemy that’s laughing in your face? Let this be the day that you
experience the full power of Yehovah-Nissi. Choose to lift high the name of Jesus
Christ and stand in awe and amazement as the enemy scatters and true freedom is
experienced maybe for the very first time in your life. Join with me today and
