StartingPoint of the Mission: God's Dominion is Unlimited. Texts for this week: Genesis 1:1; Isaiah 46:5-9; Acts 17:24-31
Reflective exercise, Day 1 * Find a quiet place; it would be best to turn off noise makers. * For a moment, listen to the silence; then listen for noises which you normally "tune out" (wind blowing through trees, ceiling fan noise...doing so, you are sharpening your listening skills for the whisper, or nudge, of the Holy Spirit as you read. * Take a deep breath, and get comfortable. * Read Genesis 1:1, then Isaiah 46:5-9 > As you read, look for a word, phrase, or truth which stands out. > Read the verses again. * With the word, phrase, or truth in mind, finish this though: "I sense that God is telling me _____________..." > Read the verses again. * With the word, phrase, or truth in mind, finish this sentence: "I sense that God wants me to ___________..." * Take a few moments to pray to God; prayer is simply talking, or conversing with God. Be sure to spend time listening as you engage in conversation with the Lord. Ask for His strength and guidance as you attempt to obey His prompting from the Scriptures you have read.
A Note About Journaling I (Larry) have found that when I force myself write about my feelings or impressions from the readings, then I am able to better understand what those feelings actually are. It is one thing to 'feel' something; it is another to describe those impressions. For example: today I wrote... "As I read through today's verses, I was reminded of an incident just this past Sunday night. While my granddaughter and I sat on a hammock, looking to the sky and observing the vast expanse of darkness spotted with the light of the stars, I felt veryinsignificant! I am but a tiny, a very tiny, speck of God's great creation. In contrast, God, the Creator, is the "Lord, and there is no other; beside [Him] is no other..." (Isaiah 45:6). This ushered into my mind the folly, the sheer ridiculous nature of times when I "quarrel with [my] Maker" (v.9) about His creation! Or when I offer my opinions, my 'advice' to God about how things should work in this world! I sense the Lord telling me to consider His dominion, His ownership, and His craftsmanship over this great and awesome creation; I feel that the Lord wants me to be more ready to give Him glory, thanksgiving, and humble appreciation for His sovereignty, and for His love and care for me, even though I am but a tiny part of this vast artwork of His."
May the Lord bless you as you reflectively read from the Bible.
